CompTIA A+ 2009: Essentials

Program Description:This is the first of two module required towards earning CompTIA A+ 2009 certification. The students will learn fundamentals of computer technology, networking , and security as well as understanding of the basic functionality of the operating system and basic troubleshooting methodology along with communication skills and professionalism.

Certification: The test that this series prepares students to take is a part of earning the CompTIA A+ 2009 Essentials (220-701) certification.

 

CompTIA A+ 2009: Practical Application

Total Number of hours: 32 Hrs

Pre-requisite : Basic Computer

Program Description: This is the second of two module required towards earning CompTIA A+ 2009 certification. The students will learn to install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PC, the Windows OS and SOHO networks  with more of a "hands-on" orientation focused on scenarios in which troubleshooting and tools must be applied to resolve problems.

Certification: The test that this series prepares students to take is a part of earning the CompTIA A+ 2009 Practical Application (220-702) certification.

 

Upon completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  • Recognized and categorize storage devices and backup media.
  • Explain motherboard components, types and features.
  • Explain the purpose and characteristics of CPUs and their features.
  • Explain cooling methods and devices.
  • Compare and contrast memory types, characteristics and their purpose.
  • Classify power supply types and characteristics.
  • Install and configure peripherals and input devices.
  • Summarize the function and types of adapter cards.
  • Distinguish between the different display devices and their characteristics.
  • Install and configure printers.
  • Compare and contrast the different Windows operating systems and their features.
  • Explain the process and steps to install and configure the Windows OS.
  • Explain the basics of boot sequences, methods and startup utilities.
  • Able to use integrate common preventative maintenance techniques.
  • Explain and interpret common hardware and operating system symptoms and their causes.
  • Explain and interpret common laptop issues and determine the appropriate basic troubleshooting method.
  • Summarize the basics of networking fundamentals, including technologies, devices and protocols.
  • Categorize network cables and connectors and their implementations.
  • Compare and contrast the different network types.
  • Explain the basic principles of security concepts and technologies.
  • Able to use appropriate communication skills and professionalism in the workplace.
  • Install, configure and maintain personal computer components.
  • Detect problems, troubleshoot and repair/replace personal computer components.
  • Install, configure, detect problems, troubleshoot and repair/replace laptop components.
  • Detect and resolve common printer issues.
  • Select the appropriate commands and options to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Differentiate between Windows operating system directory structures (Windows 2000, XP and Vista).
  • Select and use appropriate system utilities/tools and evaluate the results.
  • Install and configure a small office home office (SOHO) network.
  • Troubleshoot client-side connectivity issues using appropriate tools.
  • Prevent, troubleshoot and remove viruses and malware.
  • Implement security and troubleshoot common issues.
